Big Bad Breakfast

Big Bad Breakfast is such a good breakfast spot that we have two of them, one near the Birmingham Zoo and one out by Lake Purdy. But let's talk about the one in town. Big Bad Breakfast (or BBB for short) is all about the heartiest possible breakfast and brunch menu that spans the gamut from pancakes and sausage to eggs and barbecue. The egg scrambles are epic. The steak comes with French toast. The biscuits are drowning in gravy - just the way we like it.

Enjoy the warm booth-style diner vibe with bright checkerboard floors and fun wall decor. And if you're starting your party early in the day, you can always order from the bar.

Ruby Sunshine

Brunch Born in NOLA is the Ruby Sunshine motto.

Ruby Sunshine is a New Orleans-style brunch restaurant that brings authentic breakfast cuisine and delicious fusion from five different cultures. Dive into a world of cajun, Mexican, Tex-Mex, and French cuisine all wrapped up in one delicious eggy experience. The vibe is open and bright, with a shady terrace for outdoor dining when the weather's nice.

Ruby Sunshine reminds us that there's "no place like home" with its ruby slipper design theme based on the feelings of returning to NOLA after Hurricane Katrina. They bring that heart and the incredible food selection back to Birmingham to our brunching delight.

The menu is amazing, with a heavy focus on unique Eggs Benedict ("bennies") that you can get solo or in combos. But that's not all. There are the bananas foster French toast, many flavors of fluffy beignets, and white chocolate bread pudding pancakes, just to name a few things you don't want to miss.

Yo Mama's

Another hilariously named breakfast place is Yo Mama's, known for Chicken & Waffles and other southern comfort foods. You'll love the quirky art-industrial design and open, welcoming dining area whether you're breakfasting alone or with friends. In addition to waffles, you'll find saucy and delicious wings, classic shrimp & grits, fried shrimp, fried fish, fresh shrimp tacos, and the juicy barbecue burger. Just like your mother might have made.

The pancake piles are epic, there's always bacon, and you can sub French toast with your fried chicken instead of waffles if you're feeling festive. When the bakery is open, they have cinnamon rolls and cupcakes. They also have rotating specials, so there's always something new and delicious.

Frothy Monkey

Frothy Monkey is a trendy farm-to-market breakfast cafe if you prefer the California-style breakfast instead of Southern or barbecue. Here is where you can get an artfully frothed cappuccino alongside your avocado toast, light and fresh egg plate combo, and fresh fruit medley. Of course, in classic coffee shop brunch spot style, they also have frosted danishes with fillings like sweet cream cheese, fruit jam, and chocolate cream. 

Enjoy omelets, huevos rancheros, and farm breakfast with eggs, bacon, and pork breakfast sausage. Make your breakfast sweet with vanilla-cinnamon French toast and sweet pastries. Bring your vegetarian friend for vegan breakfast sausage and the garden omelet. Then spice it up with breakfast cocktails like a mimosa, bloody mary, or Irish coffee.

Slide Cafe

Slide Cafe specializes in sliders for all occasions, but they do a darn good brunch - unlike anywhere else. Their brunch menu includes awesome specialties like the steak & egg biscuit slider, salmon and grits plate, salmon hash, or the breakfast, which makes a slider from Belgian waffle quarters wrapped around bacon, sausage, ham, cheddar, and barbecue sauce.

We especially love the Big Breakfast, a delicious tray of corncake Belgian waffle quarters, scrambled eggs, bacon, skillet potatoes, and cheese grits for one really big breakfast that's sure to hit the spot. Go classic with the big corncake Belgian waffle solo or keep it healthy with the veggie hash or the seasonal fruit salad.
